Shakespeare, Tyranny and Truth

You can now revisit the conversation “Shakespeare, Tyranny and Truth”, held at the Mirador of the CCCB as part of the Festival Shakespeare – Prelude Edition 2025.

This event was co-organised with #AsSocPerla and the Institut d’Humanitats de Barcelona.
With: Andreu Jaume, Isabel Guerrero and Jordi Coca

Lies, fake news, corruption, hierarchical powers, popular frustration... This is not a diagnosis of our times, but a series of themes deeply rooted in the work of William Shakespeare. His theatre presents powerful portraits of tyrants and tyranny. How does he describe them? How does he explain them? How does he challenge them? Macbeth, Coriolanus, Richard III... For what context were they written? And what contexts do they speak to today? We will reflect on Shakespeare’s tyrants — childish yet dangerous characters who inhabit both the stage and the world beyond its fictional walls.
