LA TEMPESTAT

By William Shakespeare, directed by Oriol Broggi

June - July 2025

Oriol Broggi directs La Tempestat, one of William Shakespeare's grandest and most magical texts. This is a return to the essential aesthetic of La Perla 29 and actor-focused theatre, following the trail of King Lear (2008) and Hamlet (2009, 2021). The Teatre La Biblioteca will host the elemental forces of this season's second Shakespeare play.

Synopsis

A storm causes a shipwreck to Alonso, King of Naples, his son Ferdinand, and Antonio, who usurped the Duchy of Milan from his brother. The fateful tempest has been conjured by Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, who has been living in exile on a remote island with his daughter Miranda for some time. The shipwreck sets in motion his vengeful plan, playing with love and despair, and which he has devised to reclaim what was taken from him, using secret powers of nature. In fact, Prospero knows the occult sciences and can control the island's spirits, such as Ariel, whom he has bound to his service, or the unfortunate Caliban...

Thus begins one of William Shakespeare's greatest and most elemental stories, the last in chronology and maturity that has come down to us. The island will be the set for fools, kings, sailors, lovers, nobles, and drunks, surrounded by characters who exist only in fiction, while fiction becomes reality in the theatre.
